Cims de Porrera Classic, Priorat, Spain, 2011

The Priorat DOCa is situated in the most southern province of Catalonia, Tarragona. The region was elevated in 2009 to Qualified Designation of Origin (DOCa) status. The only other region with this Classification in Spain is Rioja.

‘Cims’ is Catalan for ‘summits’ which reflects how the vines and winery sit at the summit of the Porrera village. Cims de Porrera wines are still made in the old village co-operative where the facilities have been fully modernised to maximise the full potential of the region’s unique vineyards. Their focus is to produce only two premium wines which truly reflect the Priorat region.

Tasting Notes:
On the nose there are liquorice notes, frankincense, chocolate, black fruits, spices. Sweet spice, chocolate and coffee on the palate. Considerable tannins provide an impressive structure. Deep and imposing with a very long finish.

A massive wine which will complement suitably robust dishes.
