Quinta dos Murças covers 155 hectares along 3.2 km of the Douro’s right bank, it is characterized for its 8 terroirs, very marked by mountains, different altitudes and sun exposures, schist soils and the characteristic climate of the Douro valley. The winery dates back to the 1700’s, it has passed from family to family and in the 1950’s began extensive refurbishment and replanting of dozens of indigenous grape varieties, according to organic and integrated production. Esporao purchased the winery in 2008 and since then under the direction of wine maker David Baverstock and Jose Luis Moreira da Silva it has gone from strength to strength producing some of Portugal's best award winning wines and ports. There aim is to produce fresh, versatile and food friendly wines.
