Esporão Alicante Bouschet, Alentejo, Portugal, 2012

The Herdade do Esporão estate was established in 1267 and the property has been owned by the Roquette family since 1973. Their first wine was bottled in 1985. The winery are keen to preserve tradition whilst seeking to combine this with innovation. Production is overseen by the well respected and highly experienced winemaker David Baverstock. His philosophy is to create authentic and exciting wines, taking full advantage of Portuguese heritage.

Tasting Notes:

Only produced in excellent vintages and in small quantities, this wine is deep, dense red in colour with typical aromas of violet & red berry fruit combined with a toasty oak cigar box and leather. Big, broad & complex on the palate with great concentration of spice, clove and vanilla with firm tannins and long length.

Serving Suggestion:

Strongly flavoured meat dishes, stews, cod and mushroom risotto.
